How It Works

How the JEE Branch Predictor Works

One input, 16 branches analysed — here's exactly what happens behind the scenes.

01

Enter Your Rank

Input your JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) or JEE Advanced rank. Just the number — no other filters needed.

02

We Scan 88,000+ Records

Our server filters JOSAA, IPU, JAC Delhi and AKTU 2025 cutoff data to find every slot where closing rank ≥ your rank.

03

Grouped by Branch

Results are grouped into 16 branch categories — Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical and more — sorted by number of options.

04

See Your Chances

Each college row shows opening rank, closing rank, and a Safe / Moderate / Risky indicator based on your rank vs the cutoff.

Branch vs Branch

CSE vs ECE vs Electrical — Which Should You Pick?

The three most debated branches for JEE aspirants, settled with data.

Computer Science (CSE)

Pros

Highest average package (₹18–45 LPA)
Most campus recruitment opportunities
Flexible — can pivot to any tech role
MAANG / startup pipeline is strongest

Cons

Highest cutoff rank (hardest to get)
Highly competitive job market post-2023
Requires consistent upskilling

Verdict

Best ROI if you enjoy coding and can get the rank.

Electronics & Communication (ECE)

Pros

Lower cutoff than CSE (more seats secured)
VLSI boom — semiconductor sector growing 40% YoY
Dual path: hardware OR software careers
Strong in embedded, IoT, defence R&D

Cons

Core ECE jobs need upskilling in VLSI/DSP
Lower starting package vs CSE on average
Fewer pure software internships vs CSE

Verdict

Smart choice if you miss CSE — VLSI demand is explosive right now.

Electrical Engineering (EEE)

Pros

Strong government sector (PGCIL, ONGC, BHEL)
IES/GATE pathway is excellent
Renewable energy sector growing rapidly
Good for power systems R&D

Cons

Lower private sector packages on average
Requires GATE for core sector premium roles
Less tech company recruitment vs CSE/ECE

Verdict

Best if you target PSUs, GATE M.Tech, or power sector careers.

Strategy Guide

How to Pick the Right Branch — 6 Rules That Matter

Most students overthink branch selection. Here's a clear framework to make a confident decision.

01

Better College > Better Branch

A lower-demand branch (Mechanical, Civil) at IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi will almost always out-place a CSE seat at a mid-tier NIT or IIIT. The college brand matters enormously for your first job.

02

Don't Pick a Branch You Hate

GPA matters for branch change, placements and grad school. If you're indifferent to your branch for 4 years, your CGPA will show it. Pick something you at least find interesting.

03

Research Future Demand

AI, VLSI, renewable energy and bio-tech are growing fast. Branches that look 'average' today — like Electronics — are commanding premium salaries in 2026 due to the semiconductor boom.

04

Consider the Branch Change Option

If you have a 9.0+ CGPA target, pick a college slightly above your comfort zone with a 'safe' branch, then switch to CSE after year 1. This strategy works at most IITs and several NITs.

05

GATE / CAT After Engineering

If you're considering GATE M.Tech or CAT MBA, the branch matters less. Core branches (Mech, Civil, EEE) often have easier CGPA targets, giving you more time to prepare for entrance exams.

06

Ask Someone Who's Already There

No data can replace a real conversation with a 3rd-year student in your target branch and college. Download InsideEdge and ask them — it's the most important step you can take.
