What is JEE Advanced?
JEE Advanced is the entrance exam for B.Tech, BS and dual-degree programmes at all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs on rotation, under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board.
The exam has two compulsory papers held on the same day. The question types and marking scheme change every year, which makes JEE Advanced as much a test of temperament as of concepts. Seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling.

How to Prepare for JEE Advanced
Practical, JEE Advanced-specific strategy.
- 1Prioritise depth over breadth — multi-concept problems dominate JEE Advanced.
- 2Solve every past JEE Advanced paper since 2007 at least once under timed conditions.
- 3Practise multiple-correct questions carefully; partial marking rewards accuracy, not guesswork.
- 4Use the ~5 weeks between JEE Main Session 2 and Advanced for full-length paper practice only.
- 5Simulate the real day: two 3-hour papers with a 2-hour break, at least 6–8 times.
